Harvest Time

As we travel up and down the roads each weekend, we are starting to see signs of the coming season: the harvest. This year in particular, because of the nation-wide drought, many farmers are disappointed with their yields. The plants were not able to produce enough of their fruit to be effective.

Our Lord used this analogy multiple times during His earthly ministry to show a picture of the life of a Christian. In Matthew 7, He explains that people will know who we are and Whose we are based on the fruit produced in our lives (vs. 16). He also warns that any who do not produce good fruit will be cut down and burned (vs. 19).  In John 15, Jesus reminds us that the Source for our life’s energy should be Him. He is the True Vine, and we are the branches (vs. 5).  If we remain in Him, we will produce good fruit. By producing good fruit, we glorify the Father and prove to be His disciples. (vs. 8 )

Something to think about as you see farmers harvesting their crops…are you producing good fruit, or are you dried up and withered from a lack of water? Remember this: Jesus is the Source for everything we’ll ever need. Remain in Him.
